§ 2-1. Salaries of mayor and council and attendance at meetings.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Effective January 1, 2008, the salary for the mayor shall be set at $14,400.00 per annum and the salaries for council members shall be set at $9,600.00 per annum. Said salaries shall be payable in monthly installments from the funds of the city.

    (b)

Promptly at the hour set by law on the day of each regular and specially called meeting, the members of the elected body shall take their regular stations in the council chambers, and the business of the council shall be taken up for consideration. Each member of the elected body shall regularly attend functions of the council, including regular and specially called meetings.

    (c)

No member of the elected body shall miss more than six regularly scheduled or specially called meetings in a calendar year. Meetings for the purposes of this section shall be a business session. Exceeding six absences may result in a reduction of salary, an ethics violation in accordance with chapter 3 of the City Code, and/or a finding of an abuse of power which may subject the absent councilmember to impeachment proceedings in accordance with section 6 of the City Charter. For those meetings missed, notice shall be required. If a councilmember is prevented from attending any meeting convened by the mayor and council, he or she must provide notice by or before 2:00 p.m. of his/her non-attendance at the impending regularly scheduled or specially called meeting. Notice, as provided for herein, shall be to the mayor, city manager and the city clerk by way of electronic mail. The city clerk shall notify the remaining councilmembers of the absence and make a note of the absence during roll call. The clerk shall keep accurate records of each member's attendance. When a member has exceeded his/her six absences, the city clerk shall notify the affected member and the remaining board members, in writing, of the dates of the missed meetings and provide of copy the ordinance from which this section is derived.
