§ 2-171. Created; membership.

  • There is hereby created, as a part of the government of the city, a commission to be known as the city planning commission, which shall consist of five citizens of the city, to be appointed by the mayor and with the advice and consent of the council. Members of the governing body are not eligible for appointment. Each member shall serve for a term of three years, or until his successor shall have been appointed and qualified. However, the initial appointment shall be for staggered terms so that not more than two appointments shall expire annually. Thereafter, all appointments shall be for a full term, except to fill vacancies of unexpired terms, which appointments shall be for the unexpired period only. Each new member shall be appointed at the first regular meeting of the governing body each year. All members appointed to the commission shall take the oath prescribed for members of the governing body before assuming the duties as members of the commission.

    A quorum for the transaction of business shall consist of four members of the planning commission. Questions before the planning commission shall be determined by the vote of a majority of the members making up a quorum.
