§ 2-173. Powers and duties generally.

  • It shall be the duty of the planning commission, and it shall have power, to recommend or make suggestions to the governing body and other authorities concerning the laying out, widening, extending, and parking and location of streets, sidewalks and boulevards; the relief of traffic conditions, congestion, and development of housing and sanitary conditions; the establishment of zones or districts and amendments thereto; the use, height, area and bulk of buildings or structures; plans for future growth, development and improvement of the municipality, especially with regard to its public and private buildings, works, streets, parks, grounds and vacant lots looking toward the proper sanitation, and especially to service by public utilities; to do and perform any and all other acts and things necessary or proper in carrying out the provisions of this article; to study and propose such measures as may be advisable for the promotion of public interest, health, morals, safety, comfort, convenience and welfare; to make such suggestions to the governing body with reference to an area covering two miles adjacent to the limits of the city and for any and all other purposes of this commission.
