§ 54. Sanitation services.

  • The governing body is authorized and empowered to establish from time to time reasonable charges for sanitation, garbage, trash and refuse collection services in the city. The governing body may establish by ordinance reasonable rules and regulations for such operation.

    (a)

    The city has the authority to collect delinquent sanitation fees by way of a lien on the real property served and that execution may issue for the collection of same in the same way that execution issues for the collection of ad valorem taxes.

    (b)

    The City of Riverdale is granted the authority to enter into contracts with individuals, corporations, or other jurisdictions for the pickup and disposal of garbage or other waste. Municipal employees may also perform these services.
