§ 74-66. Broken meters; meter locks.

  • (a)

    It shall be the duty of every property owner receiving water service from the city to protect from damage or breakage any water meter or water meter lock serving the owner's premises. Should the city find any water meter or water meter lock damaged or broken, the water service shall be immediately discontinued, the owner and tenants (if any) notified, and in the case of a broken or damaged water meter a charge entered on the water ledger card showing the exact cost of removal (if necessary) of the meter and repairs made to same. In the case of a broken or damaged water meter lock, the lock shall be replaced and a charge as specified in the schedule of fees and charges entered on the water ledger card. Should a water meter lock be damaged more than once in a period of six months, a charge as specified in the schedule of fees and charges shall be placed on the water ledger card for each such instance.

    (b)

    In no event shall water service be reinstated until all charges set forth in this section have been paid in full. These charges are declared to be the responsibility of the owner of the premises served if the same are not paid by the tenant or occupant.
