§ 74-65. Faulty meters.
(a)
If any meter should get out of order or for any reason fail to register and water is being used, the customer will be billed at the average monthly consumption as shown by meter when in order.
(b)
A customer believing his meter to be faulty may in writing request the city to check same. Upon the receipt of such request at the office of the city water department, along with a deposit as specified in the schedule of fees and charges, which is to partially cover the costs of removing the meter, sending the meter to a checking station and replacing the meter, this work will be accomplished and a check of the registering device made. Should the results of the check show the meter to be within two percent of correct, the deposit will be forfeited by the customer. Should the results of the check show the meter to be in error more than two percent or registering more water than actually is passing through the meter, the city will refund the deposit and replace or repair the meter at no charge to the customer.
